Meeting Briefs: Village of Peotone for June 23, 2025
Culver’s Eyes Peotone: Mayor Chris Vieaux reported a promising conversation with the owner of the new Culver’s restaurant in Bradley. According to the mayor, the franchise owner said Peotone is on her list of communities being considered for a future restaurant location. Vieaux said he passed along his contact information in hopes of continuing the discussion.
Travel Center TIF Performance: The village is analyzing the first full year of revenue and property valuation data for the travel center Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district. A village administrator said the goal is to ensure the tax increment generated is sufficient to cover the bonds issued for infrastructure. A safety net is in place requiring the developer to pay the difference if the TIF revenue falls short.
Summer Infrastructure Projects: Work is underway and ahead of schedule on the Conrad Street storm sewer project. Meanwhile, the village has submitted the East Crawford Street resurfacing project to the Illinois Department of Transportation for review and plans to hold a bid opening on July 8. The village is also reassessing its sidewalk program to create a priority list for future repairs.
Grant Funding Pursued: Following a recent meeting with Congresswoman Robin Kelly, village officials are actively reviewing grant opportunities. The police chief reported he is specifically seeking grants to help the village purchase an electric dump truck for the public works department and a new electric squad car.
Event Policies Under Review: After the village funded a portable toilet for the downtown farmers market, the board discussed the need for a formal policy regarding special events. The question of whether event organizers or the village should be responsible for providing such facilities will be sent to a committee to establish clear guidelines for the future. In a related item, the board approved a special event permit for a block party on July 19.
