The new downtown restaurant Dolomiti is one step closer to serving alcohol after the Peotone Village Board unanimously approved a liquor license for the establishment at its Monday meeting.

The board voted 5-0 to approve an ordinance granting a Class “E” (Restaurant) and Class “O” (Outdoor) liquor license to Dolomiti L.L.C., located at 216 N. Second Street. The new eatery, which has earned high praise from residents since opening, plans to serve wine and Italian beer to complement its menu.

“It’s an amazing new restaurant,” said Mayor Chris Vieaux. “We’ve heard nothing negative about this restaurant and hope everybody gets a chance to check it out.”

The approval is contingent upon several conditions. The police department is conducting a background check on the owners, which typically takes 10 to 14 days. Before the license is physically issued, the owners must provide the village with proof of Basset certification for servers, the required dram shop insurance, and payment of all license fees. Once the local license is secured, the owners can apply for their state liquor license.

A trustee raised a question about the location of the outdoor seating, expressing concern about tables being placed on the prominent corner of Crawford and Second Street. A village administrator clarified that the owners also control the adjacent property and plan to locate the fenced-in outdoor patio on the side of the building, away from the main intersection.

With that clarification, the board moved forward with the vote, paving the way for the new business to expand its offerings.
