The Peotone Village Board on Monday, September 8, 2025, unanimously approved a new liquor license for Peotone Tobacco and Liquor, a procedural move required after the business underwent an internal ownership change.
Village Administrator Nick Palmer explained that the business, operated by Vinayak Liquor, Inc., at 422 S. Governors Highway, recently restructured its ownership percentages among family members. Because the shift in ownership stakes exceeded 51%, village code required the business to apply for a new liquor license.
“It’s not completely changing out ownership, it’s just some family members shifting the percentages,” Palmer told the board. “It’s not like one family selling to some completely new owners.”
Palmer added that the village has had no issues with the business and that processing the new license allows one of Peotone’s “good businesses” to continue operating seamlessly under its new ownership structure. The board approved the new license without further discussion.
