Peotone Village Board Meeting | September 22, 2025
The Peotone Village Board on Monday, September 22, 2025, took several key financial actions, including issuing a final payment for a major road project near Interstate 57 and formally accepting its annual financial report. The board also learned that the police department has secured over $75,000 in grants for new security cameras and opioid prevention programs. More details on the police grants and road project can be found in our full coverage.
In other business, the board congratulated the Peotone Historical Society on a successful Old Mill Fest and addressed several other local matters.
Old Mill Fest a Success, Fundraiser Held for Family
Ed Nelson, President of the Peotone Historical Society, thanked the community for its support of the Old Mill Fall Fest, calling the weekend event “very successful” with great attendance. Nelson announced that money raised will be used to begin repairs on the mill. A donation bucket was also present at the festival for the McNeill family, whose home next to the mill recently suffered a fire. Mayor Chris Vieaux noted a Go-Fund Me account has also been established to assist the family.
Suzy’s Saloon Receives New Liquor License
The board approved a new liquor license for Suzy’s Saloon, located at 111 N. Second Street. The action was a procedural necessity following a partial change in ownership, with Rick Jones now becoming the 100% owner. Village Administrator Nick Palmer noted the situation was similar to another recent license change and that the village has had no issues with the establishment.
Village Staff Catches $2,300 Overbilling
Administrator Nick Palmer publicly commended staff member Diane Nielsen for her diligent review of invoices from the village’s building and code contractor, B&F Construction Code Services Inc. Palmer reported that Nielsen identified approximately $2,300 in overbilling, which B&F has agreed to credit back to the village. “That’s $2,300 we might have just paid out and never known about,” Palmer said.
Demolition of 528 Schroeder Property Imminent
Progress continues on the long-discussed property at 528 Schroeder Avenue. Administrator Nick Palmer reported that the property owner has paid for and picked up a demolition permit. The owner is targeting the week of September 29 to begin the demolition work.
Safety Concerns Resolved for ‘Haunted Hallows’ Event
A major Halloween event at the Will County Fairgrounds, “Haunted Hallows,” will proceed as planned after village officials worked to resolve safety concerns. Palmer reported that he, B&F, and the Peotone Fire Protection District conducted an emergency review of the site’s haunted barn. After a walk-through, officials are confident the event can happen safely, with a final inspection scheduled for Wednesday.
Public Works Prepares for Fall Season
Mayor Vieaux provided the public works report, noting that fall tree planting of 40 new trees is expected to begin at the end of October. The final branch pickup for the season’s north side is October 20, with the south side on October 27. Leaf collection will begin on October 20 and run through December 1. The village is also preparing a request for proposals (RFP) for sidewalk replacement.
