Village of Peotone Meeting | October 27, 2025

The Peotone Village Board on Monday, October 27, 2025, approved several major technology and service upgrades aimed at modernizing operations and saving taxpayer money. The board’s most significant action was approving a contract for up to $82,920 for a new village-wide software system from BS&A Cloud to replace an outdated platform. For more information, a full story is available. The board also approved a new phone system expected to save up to $750 per month and heard a detailed report from the police chief on the locations of a new grant-funded security camera network, both of which are covered in separate articles.

In other business, the board approved a partial payment for the Conrad Street Storm Sewer project, granted a fence variance, and hired a new local cleaning service. All votes during the meeting were 5-0, with Trustee Nick Strba absent.

Fence Variance Approved for Wesley Drive
The board granted a fence variance for the property at 113 Wesley Drive. The homeowner requested permission to install a new fence parallel to a neighbor’s fence, which was built two feet off the property line, likely to avoid a storm sewer. The variance allows for a five-foot separation between the two fences to ensure the area can be properly maintained. The applicant, Steve Sorenson, assured the board the space would be well-kept.

Payment Approved for Conrad Storm Sewer Project
Trustees approved a partial payment of $84,646.85 to Iroquois Paving Corp. for work completed on the Conrad Street Storm Sewer Project. According to Public Works Manager Bob Hennke, the project is nearing completion but still has a few punch list items remaining, including final landscaping restoration.

Village Hires Local Company for Cleaning Services
The board approved a new agreement with Welch Cleaning Pro, a Peotone-based company, to provide cleaning services for village facilities. The new contract, at $450 for twice-monthly cleanings, represents a cost savings and provides more frequent service than the previous arrangement. The company will also supply its own cleaning materials.

State Data and Debt Collection Agreements Approved
The board unanimously approved two routine agreements with state agencies. The first is an annual renewal with the Illinois Department of Revenue that allows the village administrator access to guarded tax information for monitoring local tax collections. The second authorizes an agreement with the Illinois Comptroller’s Local Debt Recovery Program, a free service that provides another tool for collecting unpaid fines and fees.

Bridge Inspections Show Good Condition
Village Engineer Troy Golem reported that recent inspections of the bridges on Conrad and Ridgeland roads found them to be “structurally good.” A consultant recommended a few routine maintenance items, and the official inspection forms have been submitted to IDOT. The next required inspection for the bridges will be in 2029.
