The Peotone Village Board on Monday, November 17, 2025, put the brakes on an application for a new home-based trucking business, voting unanimously to table the request for more information.

The applicant, Jiayi Yan of Bingo J Transportation Limited Liability Company, sought a home occupation permit to operate a freight and logistics dispatch service from an apartment at 532 Hauert Street, Unit 1.

Speaking to the board, Yan and her fiancé, who joined the meeting by phone, explained that the Peotone location would be used only as a home office for dispatching and administrative work. They repeatedly assured the board that no trucks would be parked, repaired, or stored in the village. “Basically, we parking in Chicago,” a representative for the company stated. “The truck will not come to Peotone.”

Despite the assurances, board members were hesitant to approve the permit. Several trustees expressed that the request was “rushed” and that they needed more time to fully understand the new business, particularly given the controversial nature of trucking in the area.

“It sounds like somebody working out of their house, which should be fine. But like I said, it just there’s a lot of loose ends right now that I really would like to see tied back up,” said Trustee Julie Sluis.

Village Administrator Nick Palmer also suggested the board spend more time on the application. “We might want to spend a little more time understanding this just because…trucking is such a controversial thing in this neck of the woods,” Palmer said. The board then voted 6-0 to table the matter to a future date.
