Village of Peotone Meeting | November 17, 2025

The Peotone Village Board on Monday, November 17, 2025, approved a significant, grant-funded expansion of its license plate reader surveillance camera network and took action to clear the way for new home construction in the long-stalled Ashburton Estates subdivision. Both items are covered in detail in separate news stories. Trustees also unanimously voted to table a decision on a proposed home-based trucking dispatch business, citing a need for more information before granting a home occupation permit.

In other business, the board approved final payment for the completed East Crawford Street resurfacing project and signed off on permits for two major community events in the coming year. The village also continues to move forward with plans for a Downtown Overlay District, with a special planning commission meeting scheduled for December 3.

Final Payment Closes Out Crawford Street Project
The board approved a final payout of $8,921.18 to Iroquois Paving Corp. for the 2025 MFT resurfacing project on East Crawford Street. The payment represents the final 5% retention that was being held by the village. According to the village engineer, the project is now complete and all closeout paperwork with the state has been submitted.

Holiday and Summer Event Permits Approved
The village board approved special event permits for two annual community gatherings. The first is for the Game On Bar & Grill Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 29, which will include the closure of North Street between Second and Railroad streets. The second permit is for the 39th Annual Peotone Car Club Show, scheduled for July 25, 2026. The approval includes multiple street closures in the downtown area and a waiver of the amplifier permit fee.

Public Works Handles First Snow, Continues Leaf Pickup
Public Works Manager Bob Hennke reported that the department’s response to the season’s first snow event went well with no issues. Leaf collection is ongoing and will continue through December 1, though crews are behind schedule due to the recent weather and heavy volume of leaves. The village’s sidewalk replacement program also began this week.

Police Report on Regional Crime Trend
Chief David DeMik alerted the board to a regional crime trend involving crews breaking into video gaming machines at gas stations and restaurants. He noted recent incidents occurred in Elwood Park, Cicero, and Alsip, with the closest crime happening in Crete. DeMik said his department is monitoring the situation to prevent similar incidents in Peotone.

Two Officers Resign, Department Actively Hiring
The board acknowledged the recent resignations of two part-time police officers. Officer Mark Kovar submitted his retirement after 13 years with Peotone and over four decades in law enforcement. Officer David Garza resigned to accept a full-time position with the Beecher Police Department. Chief DeMik reported that the department is currently conducting a background check on one candidate for a part-time position.
