The Peotone Township Board on Monday, November 17, 2025, approved two significant financial ordinances setting the tax levies for the coming year.
During the meeting held at 7:00 p.m., the board voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance #3-25, the Township Tax Levy Ordinance. The motion to accept the ordinance was introduced by Trustee James Morgan and seconded by Supervisor Gene Younker.
Additionally, the board approved Ordinance #4-25, the Road District Tax Levy Ordinance. Trustee Ron Schubbe made the motion to accept the road levy, which was seconded by Trustee Grant Heatherwick.
Both measures passed via roll call vote with support from Trustees Morgan, Schubbe, Randy Swartz, Heatherwick, and Supervisor Younker.
These ordinances formalize the amount of property tax revenue the township and road district request to fund operations for the 2025 fiscal year.

Road Commissioner Update:
Road Commissioner John Hack reported that the department has completed grading and hauling road stone for the season. Hack informed the board that the district intends to purchase and haul chips prior to December 31.
Assessor’s Report:
Assessor Virginia Gates-Hamann reported that she has completed tax appeals and is currently continuing the process of remeasuring properties. She also noted her recent attendance at the Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) Assessor’s Conference.
Zoning and Infrastructure Correspondence:
The board received correspondence regarding several local infrastructure and development issues. Items included an Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) notice regarding a meeting about County Line Road and Route 50, as well as a notification from the Will County Land Use Department regarding zoning requests from Caleb Chemical and Ed Algonzine.
General Assistance and Solar Ordinance:
Under new business, the board addressed the adoption of the General Assistance Handbook and held a discussion regarding the adoption of a Solar Farm Ordinance. An update was also provided regarding a local taxing bodies meeting held on October 22.
Financial Reports:
Trustees voted unanimously to accept the Town Fund Budget Report, the Road District Funds Budget Report, and the Financial Summary Report. The board also authorized the payment of bills for the Town Fund, as well as the Road & Bridge, Hard Road, and Equipment Funds.
