Village of Peotone to Host Overlay District Open House Jan. 21
By Andrea Arens
Village officials will host a public open house on the proposed overlay district for downtown from 5 to 6 p.m. on January 21, ahead of the regularly scheduled Planning and Zoning Committee meeting at 6 pm at Village Hall at 208 E. Main Street.
The open house is designed to give residents, business owners, and other interested parties an opportunity to ask questions, review information, and learn more about what an overlay district is and what it means for downtown Peotone. Village officials said the Overlay District Plan has been under discussion for an extended period.
Village representatives emphasized that the open house is informal and intended for information-sharing rather than formal action.
The key goals of creating the overlay district is to preserve and enhance the historical character of downtown Peotone while setting design guidelines and standards aimed at honoring the historical integrity of the area.
Following the open house, the Planning and Zoning Committee will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. the same evening, where the overlay district will be further workshopped.
If discussion progresses as expected, officials said a formal public hearing is anticipated at the February 18 meeting, with the goal of advancing a recommendation to the Village Board at a later date.
Village officials encouraged anyone with interest in the overlay district to attend the open house and participate in the process.
