Peotone Township Meeting | March 16, 2026

The Peotone Township Board of Trustees met for 70 minutes on Monday evening to secure its municipal banking contracts, oppose local solar farm developments, and authorize the monthly financial obligations. With all elected officials present, the board unanimously approved the Town Fund Budget Report, the Road District Funds Budget Report, and the Financial Summary Report. Following the financial reviews, trustees voted 5-0 to pay the Town Fund bills and the Road & Bridge and Hard Road Funds bills. Supervisor Gene Younker called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., and the board adjourned at 8:10 p.m. following a motion by Trustee Randy Swartz.

Johnston Zoning Case Referred Back to County
Visitors Glena and Brian Johnston attended the township meeting seeking a solution for a minor sub-division zoning request. Following a discussion with the board regarding the property, the Johnstons were instructed to go back to Will County Land Use and seek a 5-acre zoning designation to resolve their issue.

Assessor Deploys Field Staff for Property Updates
Township Assessor Virginia Gates-Hamann reported that her office is actively working on updating local property records. To accomplish this, the Assessor is creating two sets of field staff who will be deployed to confirm the accuracy of property measurements throughout the township. Gates-Hamann also updated the board on the administrative process of setting up new “.gov” domain emails for township officials.

Annual Town Meeting Scheduled
The board unanimously approved the township’s meeting schedule for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. Clerk Kent Heisner reminded everyone that the required Annual Town Meeting will take place on April 14. Heisner noted that meeting notice postings will be put up soon and will be published in The Vedette on March 26.

Records Retention, Audits, and Dividends
During his Supervisor’s report, Gene Younker informed the board that he is currently working on the annual records retention list for upcoming document destruction, as well as the Annual Audit and committee selections. In correspondence, the board noted the receipt of a $1,728 dividend check from the Township Officials of Illinois Risk Management Association (TOIRMA). The board also received a request from the Green Garden HOA to use the township building for an upcoming meeting on April 9. Highway Commissioner John Hack reported he had nothing new for the road district.
