Peotone Township Board Passes Resolution to Oppose Three State Bills
The Peotone Township Board of Trustees is formally taking a stand against several pieces of legislation pending in the Illinois General Assembly, unanimously passing a resolution to oppose three bills.
At its meeting on March 17, the board approved Resolution 1-25, which registers the township’s official opposition to Senate Bills 2217 and 2504, and House Bill 2515. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Trustee Ron Schubbe and seconded by Trustee Grant Heatherwick, passing with unanimous support from the full board.
While the minutes did not detail the specific content of the bills, the board’s agenda included correspondence from the Township Officials of Illinois (TOI) regarding the same legislation. The “TOI Legislative Alert” suggests the resolution is part of a coordinated effort by the statewide organization to rally local government opposition to the measures.
The board also acknowledged receiving a separate TOI request to oppose another bill, HB 2454, and a request for comment from a local reporter on SB 2217 and SB 2540, indicating heightened attention on legislative matters impacting township governance.
