Peotone Township Eyes 3-Year Road Plan, Purchases New Sweeper
Peotone Township is planning for the future of its infrastructure, with officials discussing a long-term road improvement plan while also investing in new equipment for immediate use.
At the township’s regular meeting on April 21, Supervisor Gene Younker informed the board about a proposed three-year plan for work funded by the Township Road & Bridge, Hard Road, and Equipment funds. The forward-looking discussion aims to strategically schedule and budget for maintenance and projects to ensure the upkeep of township roads.
Adding a practical component to the long-term vision, Road Commissioner John Hack reported that the highway department has purchased a new 7-foot sweeper to replace an older, outdated machine. The new equipment will be a key tool in the department’s road maintenance efforts.
Hack also noted that his crews are already preparing for summer work. Current activities include hauling stone and grading roads throughout the township, addressing routine maintenance needs as the weather improves.
The board also set the stage for finalizing its annual spending by scheduling public hearings for the 2025-26 Town Fund and Road Fund budgets for its next meeting on May 19.
