Solar Farm on Route 45 Moves to Pre-Construction Phase

A commercial solar farm planned for a property on Route 45 is advancing to the pre-construction phase, according to a memo received by the Peotone Township Board.

During its May 19 meeting, the board acknowledged receipt of correspondence regarding a “pre-construction meeting for a solar farm on Rt. 45.” The memo signals that the project is moving forward through the county’s approval and development process. Details about the project’s developer, exact size, and the date for the meeting were not included in the township’s public meeting minutes.

This development comes just one month after the township board voted to table its own discussion on creating a set of “Guidelines for Solar Farms.” At its April meeting, the board paused its work on developing local regulations, opting to delay a decision on how to manage the siting and construction of such facilities within the township.

The announcement of a specific project now advancing highlights the ongoing push for renewable energy development in the region. As Peotone Township has no specific zoning ordinances for solar energy installations, oversight and approval for such projects fall primarily to the Will County Land Use and Development Committee and the full Will County Board. The correspondence keeps the township informed of progress on projects within its boundaries.
