Senior ace S. Klawitter delivered a pitching performance for the history books, throwing a 16-strikeout no-hitter without issuing a single walk to power the Peotone varsity softball team to a 6-2 non-conference victory over visiting Milford on Thursday.

Klawitter was untouchable in the circle, carving through the Milford lineup with incredible efficiency. She faced just 24 batters over seven complete innings, needing only 73 pitches to secure the win. Her mastery was supported behind the plate by freshman catcher Mary Klawitter, who recorded a remarkable 17 putouts.

While Milford managed to score a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to break up the shutout, the damage was entirely the result of defensive miscues. Peotone committed three errors on the day, allowing Addison Lucht and Ellie Schwartz to cross the plate without Milford recording a single hit or drawing a walk.

Peotone’s offense gave Klawitter all the cushion she needed right out of the gate, capitalizing on Milford’s own defensive struggles. The home team plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the second to build a comfortable 6-0 lead. All six runs scored by Peotone were unearned.

At the plate, junior Megan Cadieux was perfect, going 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, a run scored, and a hit-by-pitch. Sophomore A. Christenberry also delivered a crucial double, driving in a pair of runs. Klawitter helped her own cause in the leadoff spot, finishing 2-for-4 and scoring twice, while junior Payton Schnelle added a hit and a run scored.

Milford junior pitcher Kami Muehling was the hard-luck loser despite an excellent performance of her own. Muehling went the distance, allowing zero earned runs on four hits. She struck out eight Peotone batters and walked just one, effectively shutting down the home offense from the third inning on, but the early six-run deficit created by four Milford errors proved insurmountable.
