Coal City Outlasts Peotone 1-0 in Tense Pitchers’ Duel

A solo home run in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the decisive blow on Tuesday afternoon, as the Coal City varsity softball team edged host Peotone 1-0 in a tightly contested conference clash.

The matchup was defined by dominant pitching and stifling defense. Peotone senior S. Klawitter was exceptional in the circle for the Blue Devils, tossing a complete game and holding the Coalers to just three hits. She struck out nine batters and issued zero walks on an efficient 88 pitches. However, the lone blemish on her pitching line—the sixth-inning solo shot—was all Coal City needed to escape with the victory.

Coal City’s pitching matched Klawitter pitch for pitch, keeping Peotone’s offense off balance throughout the afternoon. The Coalers’ defense played flawless, error-free softball behind their pitching staff, which collectively racked up a staggering 14 strikeouts to neutralize the Blue Devils.
