Reed-Custer Outlasts Peotone 2-1 in 11-Inning Thriller Despite Klawitter’s 19 Strikeouts

Despite a monumental 19-strikeout performance by senior ace S. Klawitter, the Peotone varsity softball team fell 2-1 to visiting Reed-Custer in a grueling 11-inning conference clash on Monday.

The marathon contest evolved into a classic pitchers’ duel that demanded flawless execution. Klawitter was overpowering in the circle for the hosts, navigating through 11 complete innings while allowing just six hits and issuing two walks. However, Peotone’s defense struggled at times behind her, committing four errors that ultimately resulted in an unearned run proving to be the difference in the game.

Reed-Custer broke the ice early, pushing across a run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 advantage. The visitors clung to that narrow lead until the bottom of the sixth, when Peotone finally managed to strike back. Klawitter sparked the late rally with her bat, reaching base and eventually scoring the tying run on a clutch sacrifice fly delivered by senior Ava Kosmos.

Klawitter led the charge at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and the team’s lone run. Juniors Jillian Roark and Payton Schnelle each turned in consistent 2-for-5 performances to keep the lineup moving, while sophomore Adyson Kosmos added a double of her own.
