Strohm Tosses Perfect Game as Wilmington Blanks Peotone 4-0

Wilmington senior Lexi Strohm achieved pitching perfection on Monday afternoon, retiring all 21 batters she faced to lead the Wildcats to a 4-0 conference victory over the visiting Peotone Blue Devils. Strohm’s historic performance overshadowed a brilliant, hard-luck outing from Peotone senior Sophie Klawitter.

For four innings, the game was a deadlocked pitcher’s duel. Klawitter matched Strohm pitch for pitch, keeping the Wilmington offense completely off balance. The Peotone right-hander was sensational in the circle, ultimately racking up 10 strikeouts while issuing zero walks and allowing zero earned runs over her six innings of work.

However, the game shifted dramatically in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wilmington capitalized on a pair of costly Peotone errors to extend the frame and break the scoreless tie. Nina Egizio and Taylor Tenn delivered the clutch hits for the home team, each driving in a run as Wilmington surged ahead with four unearned runs to take a 4-0 lead. Egizio finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate, while Tenn also tallied two hits and scored a run. Keeley Walsh and Molly Southall added one hit and one run apiece for the Wildcats.

That cushion was more than enough for Strohm. Backed by a flawless Wilmington defense that did not commit a single error all afternoon, Strohm pounded the strike zone. She struck out six Blue Devils and never allowed a Peotone batter to reach base, completing the perfect game with dominant efficiency and throwing just 60 pitches.

Offensively, it was a quiet afternoon for Peotone. The Blue Devils were unable to find any gaps against Strohm’s elite command, as the Wilmington ace stifled the lineup from start to finish to secure the milestone victory.
