Allie Johnson Tosses 13-Strikeout One-Hitter as Beecher Shuts Out Peotone

Beecher sophomore pitcher Allie Johnson was virtually unhittable on Wednesday afternoon, spinning a 13-strikeout one-hitter to propel the varsity softball team to a 5-0 non-conference victory over visiting Peotone.

For the first two innings, Peotone senior ace Sophie Klawitter matched Johnson pitch for pitch, commanding the circle and keeping the game scoreless. However, Beecher’s bats broke the stalemate in the bottom of the third inning. Senior Liliana Irwin delivered the game’s biggest blow, blasting a home run to drive in two runs and give the home team the lead. Extra-base hits from sophomore MaKenna Albert, who ripped a triple, and senior M. Johnson, who added a double, fueled the three-run surge.

Armed with a 3-0 advantage, Allie Johnson went into cruise control. The Beecher right-hander pounded the strike zone, issuing zero walks over seven complete innings and racking up 13 strikeouts to completely silence the Blue Devils’ offense. Peotone junior Payton Schnelle managed to break up the no-hit bid, recording the visitors’ lone hit of the afternoon.

Beecher added insurance in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Carmela Irwin capped off a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate, helping to push two final runs across and bringing the score to its 5-0 conclusion.

Despite taking the loss, Sophie Klawitter turned in a resilient, zero-walk performance in the circle for Peotone. The senior struck out nine Beecher batters and allowed five earned runs over six innings of work. Both defenses played flawlessly behind their respective pitchers, finishing the afternoon without committing a single error.
